Regional fair, conference to chalk up teaching jobs

- Ma Yue

MORE than 12,000 teaching positions will be on offer at a Yangtze River Delta region jobs fair in Shanghai on Sunday.

The jobs will be available in Shanghai and the neighboring three provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui.

It’s the first joint jobs fair organized by Shanghai Education Commission and Yangtze River Delta region teaching force service union, which was established in April.

Nearly 2,000 schools and educational organizations will be represented.

The jobs fair is part of the 2018 Yangtze River Delta region teaching force building communication conference, according to the Shanghai Education Commission.

The three-day conference from October 27 to 29 will feature seminars in which experts and officials of educational departments in the region will share opinions about education.

“Organizing a joint job fair aims at enhancing talent exchange and communication among cities in the Yangtze River Delta region,” said Zhu Min, deputy director of the Shanghai education and sanitation affairs publicity office.

“For example, Shanghai schools face the problem of a lack of sports teachers. There are other talent vacancies in neighboring provinces.”

According to Zhu, the job fair is just the first step.

Follow-up work includes talent cultivation, experience sharing, as well as the sharing of teachers and other teaching resources.

“We hope the establishment of the union and its future efforts will increase respect for teachers and attract more talented people to become teachers,” said Zhu.

“The average income of teachers in Shanghai has doubled over the past five years, which has surpassed the average level of public servants.

“With raised income and increased preferential policies, we are pleased to see that some teachers in private schools are considering joining public schools.”

The job fair, which will be held at Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center in Xuhui District, is open to all applicants.
