Passenger services take off at airports

- Yang Jian

IT will now be easier for passengers leaving Hongqiao International Airport to find the right metro, bus or train.

Fifty intelligent touchscreens have been installed at the T2 terminal where most international flights are based.

Passengers can use the screens to find the best way to get to their destination.

The innovation is one of many by the city airport authority to improve services at the terminal buildings of Hongqiao and Pudong airports to better serve visitors to the China International Import Expo.

“With the approaching expo, the number of passengers has slightly increased at the Hongqiao airport, while the number of vehicles parked in the airport’s parking garages have also risen by about 5 percent,” said Zhao Zhihua, the business development director with the traffic management department of the Hongqiao airport.

Bilingual staff and several cutting-edge robots have been deployed at both the departure and arrival levels of the terminal buildings.

The newly unveiled robot, named “Hong Bao,” can answer questions on flight information, security checks, services within the terminal building as well as the traffic information.

A new luggage transport service was released yesterday. The paid service allows passengers to hand over their luggage to airport staff after they arrive.

The staff can transport the luggage to their home by either express, which takes at most three hours, or the normal delivery which takes about six hours.
