Pudong airport boosts language services

MULTIPLE foreign language services are now available at Pudong International Airport, along with upgraded facilities and transport services.

The Shanghai Airport Authority is responding to the upcoming China International Import Expo and the increasing number of global travelers.

Apart from English and Mandarin, staff at the passenger service centers at the departure level of the T1 and T2 buildings now offer services in a dozen foreign languages, in particular Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Russian.

A specialist support team can be contacted by telephone for more complex matters, said Shi Zhiying, an official with the operation management department of the Pudong airport.

Apart from the foreign language service, the airport authority has also upgraded its toilets.

Two model toilets at both terminals of Pudong airport were unveiled yesterday, featuring a greenery wall to purify the air, separate air-conditioning and a specialized unisex toilet for families.

Furthermore, the Pudong airport will open a new free shuttle bus service between the airport and the National Exhibition and Convention Center during the expo between November 5 and 10.

The shuttle bus will depart every 30 minutes during rush hours and hourly in other hours. The taxi waiting areas have also been upgraded at both terminals of Pudong.

Cutting-edge facial recognition cameras will monitor the number of waiting passengers in the area, and an alert will be triggered if 70 percent of the waiting area has been filled, said Lu Jun, an official with the airport.

“When passengers have to wait for more than half an hour, the airport authority will dispatch a free shuttle bus,” he promised.
