AN unveiling ceremony for a weather station at Yueyang Primary School was held last month.

Fu Congbin, 79, a professor at the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Nanjing University, is known for his excellent and constructive tutoring and, to express their gratitude, members of his team offered to finance the weather station at the climatologist’s old school.

Born in Songjiang in 1939, Fu spent seven years at Yueyang Primary School in the 1950s.

To show his gratitude for the school, Fu supported the idea and offered advice on the weather construction.

The school formed a planning group to site the station with experts from the Chinese Meteorological Society, the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Nanjing University and Songjiang Meteorological Bureau in August this year.

Fu named the weather station “Cloud Weather Station,” and did the calligraphy writing of the name.

Some students were selected as weather observers and have staff from Songjiang Meteorological Bureau as their instructors.

“I hope some of the students will join the course of exploring atmospheric mysteries with us. Let us contribute to

station’s build a safe, clear and beautiful Earth for human beings,” said Fu.

The station’s data terminal, wind velocity indicator, dog vane, solar radiation detector and air pressure detector, among other equipment, attracted the attention of primary school students as soon as they were unveiled.

“The campus weather station enlightens the teachers to carry out popular science education from a new perspective,” said school master Zhang Jian.

“Children at Yueyang Primary School can observe the weather through the station, explore atmospheric secrets, learn science and enhance their skills from now on.”
