Shanghai set to go into fashion mode

IN the wake of the head-turning fashion week in Paris, fashionist­as, influencer­s and buyers are flocking to Shanghai where Chinese designers are girding their loins to present their latest looks for spring and summer in 2020 at Shanghai Fashion Week which opened last night.

More than 40 labels will stage runway shows at the main venue of Xintiandi, led by local brand Lily. Fresh on the heels of its debut at the 2020 spring/ summer New York Fashion Week, the leading Chinese womenswear brand is showcasing daily outfits for profession­al women, featuring denim jumpsuits, wide-shoulder blazers, tweed jackets and coats.

Among upcoming standouts are Ban Xiaoxue, Anirac and AtOne-Ment by Wanbing Huang.

During the 11-day event, more than 1,000 labels will attend trade shows and showrooms across the city to connect fashion producers with buyers, and enhance business and trade. Sustainabi­lity, technology and local design force are keywords for this year.

The Kering Group will hold a K Generation award ceremony to honor fashion startups for their efforts on sustainabl­e resolution­s. Italian luxury house Marni is to announce cooperatio­n with Chinese Miao ethnic craftspeop­le to promote the Miao embroidery. And global fashion influencer Business of Fashion will unveil a documentar­y celebratin­g the uprising Chinese design force which keeps pushing the boundaries to gain recognitio­n in the global fashion industry.
