Bonjour to Shanghai French Week

- Xu Qin

THE Shanghai French Week kicks open today in downtown Shanghai.

Over two dozen booths have lined the pedestrian street of Yandang Road, Huangpu District, showcasing original Gallic designs and handicrafts, as well as authentic French music and food, such as baguettes, pastry, cheese and wine.

An annual fun event of the Shanghai Tourism Festival in October over the past 17 years, the Shanghai French Week, jointly supported by the local government and the French Consulate General in Shanghai, has now become a large-scale outdoor promotion of all things French.

This year, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Pierre Cardin Group’s entry into China, Maxim’s, a subsidiary of the Group, will be a special partner of the Shanghai France Week to showcase all of its food and fashion products.

In 1979, with China’s reform and openingup, Pierre Cardin brought the Pierre Cardin brand, by then already a byword for fashion and chic, to the people of China, which largely enriched the lives of Chinese people and improving the consumer tastes of the public.

Maxim’s de Paris was only the second French restaurant in Beijing when it opened up in 1983.

With more than 120 years of history, it is one of the most famous French brands with a priceless heritage. It is the party symbol of elegance and refinement.

So come and join the party and you will find more shows and interactive events at the weekend market with French singers, French heavy cavalry sward performance, dog shows, and ball games.

This year’s Shanghai French Week will run until October 20.

Date: Monday to Thursday 11am-7:30pm; Friday to Saturday 11am-8:30pm; Sunday 11am-7pm Address: Yandang Rd
