JIADING recently passed the acceptance tests for a national water-saving society standardized zone.

The district has promoted water-saving project in various fields, improved the utilization of recycled water and enhanced public awareness of the need to save water.

In addition, 25 enterprises in Jiading’s key industries have completed construction of a water-saving system. Altogether 1,135 public places and 78 newly built communities across the district are equipped with water-saving devices.

In Xianlong Village, lowpressure water-saving pipelines irrigate the farmland. A pipeline is directly connected with the outlet pipe of a water pump and farmers only need to open a valve to irrigate the field.

Yang Shengbo, an engineer with Shanghai Jiading Water Engineering Design Co Ltd, said that traditional irrigation methods were mainly to excavate water channels, which were much more likely to cause a loss of water.

Currently, the water utilization of irrigation rate can reach 95 percent, much more than that of the traditional method.

Domestic sewage can be transformed into recycled water at Nanxiang Sewage Treatment Co Ltd after processes including chemical treatment and disinfection.

The quality of the processed water can reach the national level A+ standard.

The district has been actively promoting public awareness of water-saving by passing on relevant knowledge in communities, schools and enterprises on World Water Days, China Water Weeks and water-saving publicity weeks, and promoting the intensive use of water resources.
