11 new cases verified as Shanghai tally hits 219

ELEVEN new local coronaviru­s cases, including one in serious condition, have been confirmed, the Shanghai Health Commission said yesterday.

Meanwhile, another four suspected cases were ruled out as of midday yesterday.

Among the newly diagnosed cases, one is from Hubei Province’s Wuhan, the epicenter of the current epidemic, and one is from Hunan Province.

Nine are Shanghai residents: those with registered residency and people staying in the city for over six months.

Three live in the Pudong New Area, plus one each in Jing’an, Baoshan, Jinshan, Songjiang, Qingpu and Fengxian districts.

Shanghai has so far reported a total of 219 cases, with patients aged between 7 months and 88 years old, and ruled out 527 suspected cases.

Among all confirmed infections in Shanghai, 81 involve patients from outside the city, including 58 from Wuhan, 20 are from other cities in Hubei, and one each from Anhui, Heilongjia­ng and Hunan provinces.

At present, 191 patients are stable, seven are in a serious condition and eight are critical.

Twelve patients have been discharged from hospital upon recovery, and there has been one fatality. Another 229 suspected cases are undergoing tests.

Two more coronaviru­s patients in Shanghai were discharged yesterday after recovery, according to the health commission.

So far, 12 patients in Shanghai have been discharged upon recovery.

The two discharged are a 35-year-old male patient, surnamed Ding, and a 64-year-old woman surnamed Zhou. They both had either traveled in Hubei or had contact with a confirmed patient.
