ALMOST 6,000 residents in Jiading District have joined the Cross-Jiading Online Sports Meeting since March.

Wang Huijun, an Anting resident, filmed yoga practice at home and uploaded the performance to the official WeChat account, Shanghai Jiading Sport. In a few minutes, a score was automatically uploaded via mobile phone.

If residents aren’t satisfied with the score, they can comment on the official WeChat account. Professionals will check performances and then alter scores if necessary. They also pass the information to technical staff so the automatic scoring system can be improved.

Professional sports coaches provide online consultation for participants as well. Zhang Qingjun from Jiading Town took part in a tai chi competition on the platform under the guidance of Zhu Yunfei on April 23.

“I joined the competition just to kill time. However, coach Zhu was very serious, and she helped me continue learning. Since then I’ve become much more interested in the sports,” Zhang said.

The competitions include yoga, exercises, tai chi, pushups and squats.

In addition to regular sports, there are some more creative activities.

Shen Dan and his son imitated forging iron with a suitcase.

Anting Town listed the show as a new program of “blacksmith forging iron” on the creative sports. After it was put online, it proved very popular among families with children.

The online sports meeting will continue till November.
