Photographers make it click with single shot

-

Winners of the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 have just been announced and here we celebrate the successful images from the Open Competition, which can be entered by anyone, amateur or professional. Contestants must submit a single shot, as opposed to a photographic series or project, and an overall winner is then picked from categories that include wildlife, architecture, landscape, travel and street photography. The awards organisers said: “The Open Competition celebrates the power and dynamism of a single image. Winning photographs are chosen for their ability to communicate a remarkable visual narrative combined with technical excellence.” This year’s Open Photographer of the Year is Liam Man from Britain, who won for his image (top) depicting a well-known rock formation on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, lit by drones and the rising orange moon. Speaking of his win, Man said: “Every year, I admire the winning photographs and envision my work being displayed among them. Being selected as Open Photographer of the Year is a dream turned reality.”
