Agent on watch
For the James Bond enthusiast, here’s a comprehensive list of the Omega watches used in the franchise since 1995
Goldeneye (1995)
Pierce Brosnan stars as Bond in a story of stolen satellite weapon technology, the disintegration of the Soviet Union and rogue agents. He’s armed with an Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Quartz with a blue dial. In the movie, Bond uses the watch’s built-in laser to cut through a steel plate.
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Bond (Brosnan) battles the machinations of an evil media mogul, Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce), who plans to trigger a conflict between China and the UK in order to help the growth of his empire. An Omega Seamaster 300M Chronometer that has been modified to incorporate a detachable remotecontrolled detonator assists 007 in his quest.
The World is Not Enough (1999)
In this movie, Bond (Brosnan) must protect the beautiful Elektra (Sophie Marceau) from Renard (Robert Carlyle), an EX-KGB terrorist planning to increase the price of petroleum by detonating a nuclear device to destroy a vital pipeline. Bond wears an Omega Seamaster 300M in a speedboat chase on the Thames; his watch features built-in illumination and a miniature grappling hook, attached to a 15-metre microfilament strong enough to support 360 kilograms.
Die Another Day (2002)
In Brosnan’s final film as Bond, he takes on industrialist Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens), who is developing a weapon with North Korea, intending to use it to blast the South and reunite the country. Bond’s limited edition Seamaster features fresh modifications, including a detonator pin replacing the helium-release valve and a laser that can cut through ice.
Casino Royale (2006)
Daniel Craig stars as the new Bond and tries to take down Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) at the gaming tables of Montenegro. He wears a blue Omega Seamaster 300M with Co-axial escapement—an updated version of earlier models but one that does not feature any special gadgets. Later in the movie, Bond is also seen with a rubber-strapped Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Co-axial Chronometer with a black dial.
Quantum of Solace (2008)
Bond (Craig) seeks vengeance for the death of his love, Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), which leads to a dangerous encounter with Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric). Agent 007 wears a 42mm Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M CoAxial Chronometer with a classic black dial and bezel.
Skyfall (2012)
The past finally catches up with both Bond (Craig) and M (Judi Dench). Bond wears two watches in the film: a Planet Ocean 600M CoAxial calibre 8500, 42mm steel-on-steel with a black dial and bezel; and a Seamaster Aqua Terra with a “teak concept” finish on the dial, echoing the wooden striped decks of the luxury yachts that Bond would frequent.
