The Belle of the Ball
Sarah Ho’s eye for style and appetite for fun ensured that shooting our cover story was an absolute breeze
arah ho’s previous shoot for a Tatler title wasn’t the glamorous experience she had been hoping for. On set for a Macau Tatler cover in 2011, Sarah, who had recently discovered she was pregnant with her first child, was hit by a particularly bad case of morning sickness. “Everyone must have thought I was crazy because I kept running to the bathroom and looking absolutely horrified whenever I got offered a snack. It was awful because I couldn’t tell anyone what was going on,” she said with a giggle.
Happily Sarah was in robust health this time around. She enjoyed a chicken salad lunch and a glass of champagne with the Hong Kong Tatler crew and regaled us all with hilarious stories about holidays in Italy with her husband and two young children. Sarah got on particularly well with fashion stylist Kirsten Lock, bonding over their mutual admiration for all the same designers. Sarah was so taken with an embroidered dress by Needle & Thread (above) that she ended up buying it to wear to the Cancer Fund Ball the following evening. “It was perfect, and I was so grateful because I was planning to dash off to the shops as soon as we wrapped,” said Sarah. “As it turned out, I didn’t need to lift a finger, as Kirsten found the dress for me on Net-a-porter and got it delivered straight to my hotel room.”
Other than a jade bracelet Sarah always wears for luck, all the jewellery in our shoot was made by our creative cover star, and the Tatler team was particularly taken by the limited edition set of number-shaped rings Sarah is wearing on the cover. We all picked our favourite number and begged Sarah to hold our chosen rings for us when they were launched at the Cancer Fund Ball the following night.
