Anabela Chan
jewellery designer BACKGROUND Hong Kong-born Anabela Chan grew up in a family of cinematographers and film directors. She moved to Paris at the age of 10 and later studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. She worked with noted architect Richard Rogers, then became a fashion print and embroidery designer for Alexander Mcqueen and Allsaints for seven years before launching her jewellery brand in 2013. Since then, she has won five international design awards, including the British Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship and Design Awards in the Fine Jewellery —Platinum Jewellery category for a cyclamen pocket square brooch. It was her first design portraying lace in platinum and white gold, which was set with yellow, white, pink and blue diamonds and a single grey Tahitian pearl. DESIGN SIGNATURE Chan’s pieces are colourful and sculptural, and are mainly focused on nature, with a lot of attention to workmanship and detail. A proponent of sustainable jewellery, she uses a combination of natural and lab-grown gemstones (each selected for their brilliance and colour) that are cut, faceted and polished by hand.
BRAND PHILOSOPHY Jewels that bring joy to their owners, combining craftsmanship and wearability while telling stories of fantasy, are Chan’s ultimate goal. “It’s about offering inspiring, beautifully crafted jewels with longevity—works of art that are worn, loved and treasured forever,” she says.
