Hong Kong Tatler and Ronald Arculli donate HK$100,000 to the Hong Chi Association

onald Arculli is known for his sharp business acumen and extensive philanthropic endeavours. He is a senior partner of King & Wood Mallesons, chairman of the FWD Group and vice-chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. He has worked as a nonofficial member of the HKSAR Government and is a former Legco member. In 2000, he succeeded the Duke of Edinburgh as chairman of the International Award Association, a position he held until November 2007. He has served on the board of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the board of governors of the London Business School, and was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2010.

It was appropriate, then, that Ronald should receive the prestigious Diamond Award at the Hong Kong Tatler Ball last year, an honour that recognises great contributions to shaping the city and benefiting the lives of others. The award comes with a pledge from Edipresse Media Asia, publisher of the Asian Tatler titles, to donate HK$100,000 to a charity chosen by the winner. Ronald nominated the Hong Chi Association, which is dedicated to assisting people of all ages suffering from intellectual disabilities. The foundation operates 80 service units, including 13 special schools, which provide pre-school training, special education, job training, supported employment, residential services, family and community support and professional therapy.

“I got to know the Hong Chi Association several years ago through a friend,” says Ronald. “The charity aims to provide services and support to over 7,000 intellectually challenged and disabled people, their families and carers. I was struck by the closeness of the families and friends and those who provided care and support with those they cared for. Their situations are a lifetime commitment. I was really moved by that experience.”

Edipresse Media Asia executive chairman Michel Lamunière was delighted to make the donation to Ronald’s chosen cause. “Ronald has done so much for Hong Kong and has always been a committed philanthropist, thus it was only fitting that we should recognise his extensive charitable contributions in Hong Kong,” he said.
