Last year Hong Kong Tatler’s inaugural Generation T list cast a spotlight on 100 of the city’s brightest young innovators, connectors and disruptive talents under the age of 40. Our July 2016 cover story was dedicated to the project, profiling 14 of the 100 across six pages and four unique cover shots. We also published a Gen T book containing a biography of each inspiring individual.
The members of the list came from a wide variety of sectors, from philanthropy and finance to e-commerce and the arts. They embodied the future of Hong Kong— spirited, ambitious and determined—they were the people driving the city forward. This year we return—albeit with a much tighter list.
The second edition of Gen T zeroes in on 50 of Hong Kong’s young game changers. Think exceptional business mavens, food alchemists, art gurus and tech geniuses, all under one definitive (Tatler) umbrella.
The selection process hasn’t been easy. To get down to our final 50, we sought the help
of a few of last year’s alumni and established heavyweights from our Tatler 500 List (see opposite), sharpened our criteria and honed our requirements. Two key ones: to be a go-getter, and to have achieved tangible and extraordinary results. And, oh, do our picks display both!
The membership of this year’s Gen T will be revealed in these pages next month, though we’re throwing an exclusive party on June 23 to bring our class of 2017 together, the first of a series of Gen T events we’re planning. The aim is to create a positive and powerful network for the next generation, and give merit the recognition it deserves.
And that’s not all: as a continent-wide initiative, all the Asia Tatler editions— Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia—are launching their own Gen T lists, too. Together, we’re creating a pan-asian community of 400 top young entrepreneurs. We want to be as ambitious as our Gen T listers. They’re kind of our new heroes, really.
