Tatler Hong Kong

THE GENERATION T DINNER

-

Hong Kong Tatler hosted a private dinner at Duddell’s to celebrate the unveiling of Generation T 2017 and to bring the 50 members together. After a cocktail reception in the gallery room, guests proceeded into the dining room, where they were greeted by four long tables with neon lighting running down the centre, each setting marked by a special table card in a miniature dim sum box and flowers by Bloombox.

The table card for each Generation T member featured a QR code linking to a certificate declaring that a tree had been planted by Hong Kong Tatler on their behalf as part of an environmental collaboration between Tatler and Friends of the Earth. The collaboration saw 50 trees planted on the banks of the Dong River, the main source of water for Hong Kong, as well as 40 million residents of Guangdong.

Over a sumptuous dinner that included Duddell’s signature barbecued Iberico pork with honey and pan-fried Australian M9 wagyu beef, Goris Verburg, managing director for Northeast Asia of the evening’s title sponsor, IWC Schaffhausen, explained the luxury watchmaker’s interest in the Gen T project. “One of the core values of IWC is the pioneering spirit,” he said. “And like last year, we have selected five talents from Generation T who share the same vision and values as us. In order to support these pioneers, we hope to create exciting collaborative projects together.”

The evening’s keynote address was delivered by University of California, San Diego research scientist Albert Lin, an Explorer of the National Geographic Society, who gave a fascinating account of his work and presented a video of some of his exploratory trips, including into the Mongolian highlands on a hunt for the tomb of Genghis Khan, and into the Guatemalan jungle in search of longlost Mayan temples.
