With Halloween just around the corner, four familiar faces recall their favourite costumes

FIONA KOTUR MARIN

Todd and I thought it would be a great idea to dress up as Donatella Versace and Lenny Kravitz. Well, it was a good idea at the time. I was thrilled at the chance to wear a Versace safety-pin dress that I had from the ’90s paired with a platinum blonde wig. Todd assembled his costume by draping one of my fur capes inside-out across his shoulders and accessorised with one of my hoop earrings pinned to his nose. It was a great night and good fun.

SHARIE ROSS-TSE

We were holidaying in Zürs, Austria, and one of the items on the itinerary was attending a carnival party, where people tend to go all-out with their costumes. I decided to dress up as Maleficent and Nissim took inspiration from Harry Potter. Our friends, meanwhile, wore a variety of superhero-themed costumes. But I loved my costume the most because the music was very loud a lot of the time and I couldn’t tell as my headpiece kept my ears covered.

CANDICE SUEN-SIEBER

We used to throw parties, where the theme was “ugly hair” or “ugly shoes” and people had to dress accordingly. One of my favourites was an ugly hair party I hosted at the former California restaurant and bar in Lan Kwai Fong, where some of the wackiest and weirdest wigs I’ve ever seen turned up. Peter Cheung made quite the impression with his wig and see-through blazer, and Nissim Tse is famous for that white Gucci suit. Such fun.

RINA WADHWANI

My favourite costume has to be the ensemble I put together for the Dia de los Muerto, or Day of the Dead, party that Stephen and Deborah Hung hosted last year. I designed and made all the accessories. I spraypainted the skulls and glued the flowers on the umbrella and hairband, and donned a black feather cape I bought in London years ago. My make-up artist affixed crystals in a unique pattern on my face— such a striking finishing touch. I have more fun dressing up in costumes as an adult then I ever did as a child.
