Tatler Hong Kong

In The Know

-

This issue marks the fifth anniversary of How To, an annual feature we launched in October 2013 to celebrate the wealth of knowledge stored in the brains of the city’s most clued-up characters.

Over the years, many connoisseurs and collectors from the Tatler community have stepped forward to share their top tips on subjects close to their hearts, plus pose for some pretty whacky photos. Punch Detox founder Angela Chengmatsuzawa was snapped in a bath full of cherries for her How To… Be Body Beautiful The Natural Way. Lawyer-turned-yoga instructor Yuda Chan transformed into a caped crusader and walked on water when she advised on How To… Create A Marvel-lous Comic Collection, and Harilela Group CEO and chairman Aron Harilela donned shiny riding boots, jodhpurs and a helmet for his How To… Be A Polo Pro.

Our How To series even won the gold prize for excellence in feature photography at the Asia Media Awards. The winning shot showed sporty stylista Mira Yeh surfing down a Hong Kong street. The photographer behind that futuristic portrait was Nic Gaunt, who’s back behind the lens for this issue’s How To, which is dedicated to the modern gentleman. So if you want to know how to choose your first tattoo, be a 21st century dad, back a winner at the races or stock your home bar, then turn to page 180 and learn from the best.

Want to know how to make money from your social media posts? Check out our interview with Gogoboi, the fashion blogger from Mainland China who is rumoured to charge up to 180,000 yuan per sponsored Wechat post (p.190).

With 1.4 million followers on Sina Weibo, our cover star, Nancy Zhang, is a social media sensation in her own right. She’s also being hailed as the Natalie Massenet of Mainland China. Turn to page 172 to discover how this unstoppable 24-year-old is following in the footsteps of the Neta-porter founder and revolutionising online luxury shopping in her home country.

And if you have a passion you’re dying to share, then get in touch and we’ll save you a place in next year’s How To…
