NATALIE KINGHAM
Which designer are you looking forward to having on Matchesfashion.com?
Kevin Germanier. I’m excited by his designs and approach to sustainability.
In which city do you see a surge of emerging talent?
London always has amazing new talent— Molly Goddard, Charles Jeffrey and Richard Quinn are just a few examples of London-based emerging designers.
What are your favourite trends of the season?
Headgear: hoods at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and Maison Martin Margiela; hats and headpieces at Saint Laurent; Swiss doll veils at Erdem; and headscarves at Richard Quinn. It’s one of the most directional trends of the season.
How do you discover new brands?
I always keep an open mind when attending fashion weeks and visiting showrooms. We are always on the lookout for new brands that can offer something different within our edit.
What are three of your favourite collections from FW 2018?
I love Gucci for the plaid pieces, which were used to temper the otherwise loud mash-up of prints and instantly made each look more wearable. I also have my eye on Marine Serre. And Colville is another one to look out for. It’s the brainchild of former Vogue UK fashion director Lucinda Chambers and Marni designers Molly Molloy and Kristin Forss.
What’s one thing you would like to change about the fashion industry?
I think we are already making great steps towards this, but I would like to see more of a focus on sustainability in the wider industry.
What’s something you always have with you during fashion month?
The Row cashmere pieces. They’re extremely luxurious and great to wrap yourself in while travelling.
If you had to wear only one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be?
Hillier Bartley.
Secret beauty hack?
Biting my lips and pinching my cheeks for an instant perk of colour.
What are your most prized fashion possessions?
I have some runway dresses by Alexander Mcqueen from early collections that I will always cherish.
What’s one recent purchase you can’t stop wearing?
Prada embellished studded derby shoes.
