Typically, Kevin Lam prefers to keep a low profile. But you only turn 50 once and, to celebrate his latest trip around the sun, his wife Sabrina went all out to throw him a grand party at the Four Seasons that was full of dancing, singing and laughter.

The Harbour View Ballroom was adorned with pink balloons, roses and blush-coloured tablecloths topped with showgirl feathers, a spectacular space where 150 of Kevin’s family members and closest friends stood out in the contrasting black-and-white dress code. On entering, guests signed a wall-length installation featuring nine photos of Kevin as a child. The attendees, among them John Shaw and Martin Lau, enjoyed a five-course meal. Caprice cheese platters, crispy prawns prepared by Lung King Heen, wagyu beef and scallops were just some of the lavish offerings.

Sabrina gave a heartfelt speech in which she declared her marriage had helped her to become a better

person, describing Kevin as the yin to her yang. As the dinner was nearing its end, a troupe of modern dancers wowed the audience, followed by four Brazilian carnival dancers who had the crowd off their seats and into a conga line by the time dessert was served.

Of course, the two birthday cakes rolled out after the dance party were just as festive. The cakes, created by Sabrina’s Saint Honore bakery, marked the fact that the couple’s birthdays are two days apart. Kevin then toasted his better half—and her mother, Julia Fung, who had been at the hotel since 8am overseeing preparations for the big night.

After the sweet sentiments, the group capped the festivities with some karaoke. We hear there were plenty of talented crooners in the crowd— Kenneth Gaw, Paulo Pong, James Louey, Pansy Ho, Adrian Cheng and even the birthday boy himself among them—and the singing continued past 2am.
