Go Blue sends out a message of hope and peace to all Cypriots

- By ANNE CANALP

A MUSICAL call for a fresh start for the island has gone out on a Top Five local TV programme this month as a new band, Go Blue, voiced a message of hope and peace for all Cypriots.

The song, released in English with the title NewBeginning, and in Turkish as SevmekHerşeydir(Love isEverything), was composed by CyprusToday staffer Cemaliye Mamalı, who performs it with lead guitarist Ziya Başkal, bass guitarist Denizer Şehitoğlu and İnanç Eyüboğlu on percussion and keyboards.

Mrs Mamalı said: “I felt disappointed at the status quo we are living in in Cyprus and wanted to inspire others not to give up hope.”

The Lefkoşa-based guitarist and songwriter was inspired to self-fund her song by daily buffer zone bicommunal campaigning for a solution at last summer’s CransMontana talks.

She described the song as “my gift to the people of Cyprus and I hope that people around the world get to hear and see it and support us”, adding: “When I saw Unite Cyprus Now on the streets I looked into what they were about and realised that they were on my wavelength — a mission to bring all Cypriots together for peace and a solution.”
