A BLOCKBUSTER treatment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that triggered America’s entry into World War Two.

Disney studios in 2001 grafted some of the most spectacular action scenes ever made onto a rather anorexic love story about two American airmen in love with the same nurse.

This three-hour epic cost $150 million to make and took $450 million at the box office.

Michael Bay directed and they queued around the block to witness the Japanese attack on the US Navy base on December 7th, 1941.

Hundreds of Zero fighter bombers buzz around the exploding fleet. Bombs tear through the decks of warships, torpedoes hiss under the thrashing feet of drowning soldiers. Men are blown through upturned ship’s propellers.

Winner of an Oscar for Special Sound Effects and misgivings about the vapid love story were lost in the wreckage. The rival swains were Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett with Kate Beckinsale as their love interest.

Empire magazine said: “As long as you’re not expecting Dostoyevsky, it’s a thoroughly well-built dramatic actioner with awesome CGI. The attack sequence ratchets up the action bar dozens of notches. Quite simply, you have never seen anything like it!”
