TWO men were stabbed this week in separate incidents at nightclubs.

In one, Mehmet Avkıran, a waiter at an unnamed club in Alayköy, was left fighting for his life with six stab wounds.

Mr Avkıran was attacked inside a people-carrier in the venue’s car park in the early minutes of Wednesday after a dispute over one of the club “hostesses”, Lefkoşa District Court heard later in the day after the suspected knifeman gave himself up to police.

The 33-year-old received first aid treatment at the scene before being rushed into surgery at Lefkoşa State Hospital. Doctors said his condition was critical.

Mehmet Şerif Durdu was said to have told officers he threw the weapon into the sea near Lapta’s fishing shelter, but a search by divers failed to find it.

Durdu, 39, was charged with wounding, attempted murder and illegal possession of a knife and remanded in custody for two days.

Elsewhere, a brawl between two customers over a barmaid at Gold Night Nightclub in Gazimağusa ended in one being stabbed at 10.30pm on Monday, the town’s district court heard on Wednesday.
