“Jealous” killer heard in court
A COURT heard this week how a ‘jealous’ killer murdered an 83-year old man because he suspected the victim was having an affair with his wife
Azat Nurmamedov was said to have confessed to police. Lefkoşa District Court heard that he hit Veysi Muslu Akdeniz over the head with a pan and stole money from his apartment in Gönyeli.
Assistant investigator, Hüseyin Göymen told the court that the suspect had, after physically assaulting Mr Veysel, he proceeded to strangle him. It has also emerged that “after stabbing him. . .he hit him, hit his head on marble, then hit his head again with a pan, then stole 2,000TL, 10,000 dollars, £465 and 555 euros in cash. He also stole two bank cards and bank receipts.
Türkmenistani Nurmanedov asked to address the court, where he said: “I did this solely for honour and my life. There is absolutely no other reason. There is also a voice recording on my telephone. Please, I want an advocate,” he said.
Judge Hale Dağlı ruled that, due to the seriousness of the crime, the suspect remain in custody for a further eight days while investigations continue.
