PM: Prospect of a solution will decrease as long as EU continues to ‘spoil’ Greece

-

THE prospect of a solution in Cyprus will continue to decrease for as long as the EU continues to “spoil” Greece and the Greek Cypriots, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar said.

He was responding to a joint statement issued following the seventh Summit of the Southern European Union countries (MED7), which offered “full support and solidarity with Cyprus and Greece in the face of the repeated infringements on their sovereignty and sovereign rights, as well as confrontational actions by Turkey”.

“Our aim is to take place within the EU with our rights and law. I make a call to the EU to be prudential,” Mr Tatar said in a written statement.

He also slammed French President Emmanuel Macron, who chaired the MED7 meeting, for using the “Greek Cypriot-Greek duo for the interests of his country” and creating “great harm to world peace and regional peace”.

“The resolution taken by seven EU southern European countries in Corsica, under pressure from France, is wrong and will not contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem and to decrease the tension in the region,” Mr Tatar said.

“As long as those who have taken these resolutions are not prudential, they will not contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem.

“There is not a threat by Turkey on the sovereignty rights of the Greek Cypriots in the resolution as it is claimed.

“On the contrary, Greece and the Greek Cypriot side try to ignore the sovereignty and sovereignty rights of the Turkish Cypriot people. The side which should be supported by the EU is the Turkish Cypriot people, whose sovereignty rights are being usurped.”
