Woman in coma after ‘swallowing cocaine’

-

A WOMAN was left in a coma after allegedly swallowing seven grammes of cocaine to avoid its discovery by police.

The mother-of-two, who was only identified by the initials BNK, swallowed the drug as the car she was travelling in approached police who were carrying out a routine traffic check in Gazimağusa on September 18, the town’s district court was told on Wednesday.

Before the court were three other occupants of the car, who were also identified only by their initials – AY, SO and CT.

Police Officer Necip Samancın gave evidence that the group purchased 10g of cocaine and travelled to Gazimağusa where they sold three grammes of the drug to three different people, who police are still trying to trace.

“They had lunch and alcohol in a restaurant before being stopped at a routine traffic control on Havva Şentürk Caddesi,” the officer said.

“Before the car was stopped, BNK, who was a passenger in the back seat, swallowed seven grammes of cocaine which was in the possession of AY.

“She then became unwell and was taken to hospital.” In a statement, SO said that BNK had vomited blood after returning from hospital at their rented home in İskele before admitting: ‘I swallowed the drug.’

“We are in contact with the doctor who is treating BNK, who is unconscious, and her medical condition remains critical.”

Officer Samancı added that three “joints” and a plastic carrier bag containing additional drugs were later found on SO and that in a search of the apartment and his car, a further eight “joints” were discovered.

Blood stains found on bedding in the apartment where BNK became unwell have been sent to Turkey for further analysis.

All three defendants were remanded in custody for five days pending further police investigations.
