TRNC election

TOMORROW night we will know who the next TRNC president is. It’s a clear choice between the status quo with Akıncı and change with Tatar. If a continuing 40+ years of Turkish Cypriot isolation is your thing, Akıncı is your man. If you have had enough of all that, Tatar will provide it. I’ve supported the Turkish Cypriot cause for decades. If the status quo prevails, that’s fine, it’s their choice — but I give up.

Madman v past it

CAN anyone watching Donald Trump and his miraculous “recovery” from Covid-19 any longer doubt he’s bonkers, or watch his forgetful opponent, Jo Biden and not believe he’s past it? I can’t. The poor Yanks, what a choice! I am quite clear, Britain needs Trump. He will grant a post-Brexit US/UK trade deal, Biden will not. For me, it’s as simple as that.

Maraş

THE opening up of part of Maraş, also known as Varosha, is an historic event and a gamble for Ersin Tatar. The Greek Cypriots have called for its reopening for years and the return of its property to “its rightful owners”. So, they should be happy, that’s precisely what Ersin Tatar has promised. They’re not! Why? Is it because it is now known most of the land belongs to Evkaf and is not Greek Cypriot? You bet it is.

Ignorance is bliss

THE casting of a white Israeli actress as Cleopatra has been condemned by the “Black Lives Matter” brigade. The say Cleo was black. Cleopatra was a Macedonian (Greek) descendent of one of Alexander the Great’s generals! Ignorance is bliss, isn’t it?
