ANYONE who thinks the climbdown by the Premier League’s “big six” over project “Big Picture” means that the discussion is over is fooling himself. What Liverpool and Manchester United achieved is the fact that the genie is now out of the bottle and big changes will inevitably happen sooner rather than later. Personally I think if these socalled elite want a European Super League then close the door behind you but don’t expect to be allowed back when the realisation sinks in that the Emperor’s new clothes are in fact a soulless substitution for the real thing.

Where were they last season when it was equally badly implemented? It was also laughable to watch the attempts by Liverpool fans to lobby the FA and Parliament for the return of “our lost two points” and their demands that Jordon Pickford and Richarlison should be “banned for as long as Van Dijke and Thiago are out injured”. It’s true what they say about Scouse humour though, after all who can forget the public relations disaster that saw the players and staff donning “we support Luis” T shirts?
