Young fitness athletes scoop medals in Serbia
TWO young athletes from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus took top places at a World Children’s Fitness Championship event in Cacak, Serbia, last weekend.
They were Yasmin Racıoğlu, who finished first in the Class I: Fitness Girls 15 years category, and Şengül Karataç, who scooped the winner’s medal in the Class D: Fitness Girls 10 years category.
Five other children from North Cyprus also took part, including Aren Tantura, ranked third in Class C: Fitness Boys 10-11 years, and Su Öz, fifth in Class E: Fitness Girls 11 years.
The youngsters, who were all from the Nev Children’s Fitness club in Lefkoşa, were competing under the flag of the event organisers, the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB).
The “IFBB” TRNC team finished fourth in the “country” standings, behind Hungary, Ukraine and Serbia.
President Ersin Tatar congratulated the participants on Twitter, writing: “I congratulate Nev Fitness athletes for their outstanding performances and their world cham
pionships and rankings, and for successfully representing the TRNC.”
A statement from the organisers said: “In an extremely difficult situation, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, about 200 competitors and delegates participated in the World
Fitness Championship for younger categories. Competitors competed in nine categories for girls and five categories for boys.
“The competition was held under the patronage of the [Serbian] Ministry of Youth and Sports and the City of Cacak.”
