Tulips boost,

- By ELTAN HALİL

HUNDREDS of pounds and thousands of TL have been raised for the Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) during their latest fundraising activities, the charity announced this week.

Tulips received 920TL from a quiz at Indian Garden in Çatalköy on December 2.

“Thank you to Graham Fursman for putting [the quiz] together and to everyone who parted with their money!” Tulips spokesperson Sue Tilt said.

A further £400 was donated by Girne’s St Andrew’s Church to help “put some enjoyment into the lives of children for New Year”.

“These children need our help whether they are cancer patients themselves or children of cancer patients, but all are living on or below the poverty line,” Mrs Tilt said.

“When St Andrew’s Church asked Türk Bankası for a big cheque to make a special presentation to [Tulips chair] Raziye Kocaismail, [the bank] immediately offered to donate £200 themselves!

“Our heartfelt thanks go to St Andrew’s Church and Türk Bankası for this incredibly generous donation, which was presented to Mrs Kocaismail on Monday.”

Almost 8,000TL was donated to Tulips by Korineum Golf Club on Wednesday, money raised “throughout the captaincy of

Nilüfer Dilek and Gareth (Griff) Griffiths”.

“Representatives of both Tulips and the British Cemetery Committee were invited to the Korineum Golf Club today for a presentation of monies raised throughout the captaincy of Nilufer Dilek and Gareth (Griff) Griffiths,” Mrs Tilt said.

“Each charity collected a cheque for 7,767TL! This is a truly amazing figure which far exceeded our expectations and we cannot thank the members of the Korineum Golf Club enough for their support especially through these difficult times.”

Meanwhile sponsorship cash is still being collected for the Tulips “Big Walk” to help children with cancer, which took place under perfect weather conditions at the Alsancak national park from 11am on Sunday to 11am on Monday.

In a message of thanks to participants issued via social media, Mrs Tilt said: “The support we received was outstanding, we did not know how many would turn up but it was an incredible sight to see you all coming to participate throughout the full 24 hours. . . you were all amazing.”

The final figure raised will be announced once all the pledged money has been received, Mrs Tilt said.

She added that donations can still made online at justgiving. com/ crowdfunding/thebigwalk2020, where over £700 has so far been raised.
