Dubai showcases N Cyprus produce

PRODUCE of North Cyprus has been showcased at the “world’s largest annual food and beverage trade show” at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Cyprus Turkish Industry Chamber (KTSO) attended the Dubai Gulfood exhibition, which started on Sunday and ended on Thursday, with five TRNC-based companies.

The firms present were Arden Gıda, Akgöl Dairy Products Industry, Helvasan Ltd, Avunduk Dairy Products and Gülgün Dairy Products.

Representa­tives offered visitors to the KTSO stand samples of their food products, such as hellim cheese

and the tahini-based sweet helva.

They also handed out

brochures promoting North Cyprus exports such as fruit and vegetables, poultry and meat products, fish, dairy products, Turkish delight, dried fruits and nuts, jams and honey, tea and coffee, fruit juice, fizzy drinks, alcoholic beverages, as well as other goods including constructi­on materials, furniture, cleaning products, textiles, plastic products, and pharmaceut­icals.

KTSO head Candan Avunduk said that the Dubai Gulfood exhibition has been held since 1987 and that the KTSO has been taking part in it for 16 years. Some 97,000 people visited the fair, he said, with 5,000 firms taking part.

“Despite the global pandemic, the KTSO attended the Dubai Gulfood exhibition in order to improve the exports and the economy of the [TRNC] by creating networks between foreign markets and Turkish Cypriot producers,” Mr Avunduk said.
