‘Come and support us’ charity shops reopening

-

CHARITY shops are reopening their doors following last month’s coronavirus lockdown.

The Help Those with Cancer Association’s (Tulips) Alsancak branch is now open again from Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm.

Tulips fundraiser Sue Tilt said: “The Tulips shop had been closed for three to four weeks due to the lockdown so it is fabulous that the shop in Alsancak is open.

“There are plenty of second-hand but nearly new good quality clothing and household items on sale, as we have had lots of donations during this period.

“We call upon members of the community to keep an eye out, to come and shop and to support us.”

She added that the Tulips Lambousa Market stall will also be open today.

The North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust (Hearbeat) has also reopened its shop The Hut, located behind the Girne Post Office through the car park. It is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm.

The Heartbeat Shop, located next to Girne State Hospital, will also be reopening soon on a date to be announced. “Please support us by visiting our shops, all donations are welcome,” they said.

Margaret Ray, of Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR), said their charity shops are open. “It is with great delight we announce the reopening of our three charity shops,” she said.

“We have so many volunteers, and many have had two [Covid-19] jabs, but are still required to undergo a PCR test. We are currently addressing this issue because every shop has different volunteers rotating on a daily basis. . .We were levelling up in January when the lockdown was imposed, so we really appreciate support. . .all the shops have been cleaned out and disinfected.”

The rescue centre in Arapköy is not open to the public yet, Mrs Ray said, but called on people to contact KAR via social media if they have a rehoming enquiry.

The KAR shop Gladrags in Karakum is open from Monday to Thursday from 10am to 1pm; with the two Girne centre shops open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Meanwhile Barbara Burton, from Furry Friends, said they are preparing to have a table at the Crafts Fair to be held at the Paws for a Cause, Easter Craft Fayre, at the Ocean Blue Bar and Restaurant on Sunday, April 4, in Esentepe.

“We are trying to fundraise and are looking for items to sell,” she said. “Any donation can be made to the Food Lodge in Çatalköy. We are nearing the end of our funds and we have just neutered a dog in Ozanköy and have a cat in need of neutering. I appeal to anyone wishing to donate woodwork, knitting and different items that will help.”

Mrs Burton said that those who want to support the cause can call 0542 865 7916 or visit the Facebook page “Furry Friends”.
