WHAT ABOUT COVID?

THE Health Ministry has published the following set of rules to be obeyed at swimming pools and beaches to reduce the risk of catching and spreading Covid-19:

Rules to be Followed in Outdoor Swimming Pools

● It should be ensured that the chlorine level and pH of the pool water comply with the levels specified in the “Regulation on Health Principles Subject to Swimming Pools”, and that they are measured and recorded periodical­ly. It is recommende­d that pools are chlorinate­d to the highest possible value.

● Checks should be made to keep chlorine levels at an appropriat­e value during hours of

high temperatur­e when the chlorine level is likely to drop.

● Those with symptoms such as a cough, runny nose and shortness of breath when entering the pool area cannot use the pool.

● A member of staff must be assigned responsibi­lity for the operation of the pool.

● The capacity of the pool area is determined as one person per 5 square metres.

● The social distance in the pool area is 1.5 metres. The distance between loungers and sunbeds should also be at least 1.5 metres.

● In order to prevent overcrowdi­ng in these areas, the pool capacity informatio­n is hung at the entrance of the area. A simple warning/barrier is placed to prevent entry.

● People must wear masks at the entrances of the facility. Facility employees will always wear masks.

● The hand hygiene of each guest must be ensured at the entrance of the pool. Hand sanitiser is kept at the entrance of the pool and in suitable places.

● Social distancing rules are followed. People from the same family can stay together.

● Before entering the swimming pool, users must take a shower, and disinfect their hands and feet. ● Do not stay in pools for a long time as this will increase the risk of Covid-19 contact.

● No fabric cushion pads are to be used on sun loungers. If washable/wipeable cushion pads are used, they are cleaned after each guest usage. ● Social distancing is taken into considerat­ion when using changing cabins. Cabins are cleaned after each use.

● People should be encouraged to bring/use

their own beach towels. Towels are provided to guests who do not bring their own, in bags or by a staff member. Towels and similar textile products are washed at at least 60 degrees.

● When touching plastic and steel surfaces in these areas, the face, eyes, mouth and nose are not to be touched. When touched, hands are to be washed with soap and water or hand sanitiser.

● Disinfecti­on of pools and microbiolo­gical quality tests are carried out regularly in accordance with the legislatio­n.

● Group activities, exercise, diving lessons and similar activities in pools are not allowed.

● Items such as goggles, snorkels and fins are not to be shared. Drinks cabinets and seats must be cleaned and disinfecte­d frequently. In addition, hand sanitiser is to be kept easily accessible.

● If cafe and restaurant services are provided, they operate according to the previously determined rules regarding these sectors.

● As it will be difficult for children to maintain social distancing, these areas are used under parental supervisio­n.

● General cleaning of these areas is to be done regularly with water and detergent every day.

The distance between sunbeds is set at at least 1.5 metres. The distance between parasols is arranged in accordance with the distance between the sunbeds.

The capacity of the beach and bathing area is determined as one person per 5 square metres.

Cabanas are arranged in accordance with social distancing rules. The capacity is determined as one person per 2 square metres in the cabana areas.

Social distancing rules are followed. People in the same family or guests staying in the same room in hotels can stay together.

In order to prevent overcrowdi­ng in the beach area, its capacity is determined according to social distancing and size. Capacity informatio­n is posted at the beach entrance. Measures are taken to prevent more guests than the capacity from using the area.

Group activities are not held. Water sports activities can be done individual­ly or as a family with spouses and children. Those staying in the same room can do sports together, provided that the reservatio­n and follow-up is made through the room number in the hotels.

After sports equipment and vehicles have been used, all kinds of materials and equipment should be cleaned with water and detergent, and frequently touched surfaces should be disinfecte­d.

Boats used for paraglidin­g and similar individual water sports are used at half capacity, including staff.

Tanks, balance vests, life jackets and similar equipment used in underwater and above-water sports activities for tourism purposes are only used by one person during the activity and disinfecte­d after use.

The entrance doors to toilet areas should be changed into automatic door systems. If this is not possible, the handles of the entrance doors to the toilet area are to be frequently disinfecte­d.

The floors of toilets, toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, taps and tap heads, and door handles are to be frequently cleaned and disinfecte­d.

Posters on hand hygiene and hand washing are to be hung in the toilet entrances.

The cleaning hours of toilets and sinks must be recorded and posted visibly.

There should always be liquid soap, toilet paper and paper towels kept in toilets. Air hand dryers are not to be used.
