No refuse collection in Esentepe . . . as I forecast

- Graeme Petty, Greatstone Park, Esentepe

WELL, I see we got the usual mealy-mouthed response from Cemal Erdoğan, the “Mayor” of Esentepe, to my complaints (Cyprus Today, June 5).

I also noted the article about other areas [of Esentepe] being neglected with rubbish piling up after weeks of non-collection. We did get a collection on the Thursday (June 3), our first for four weeks despite the assurances a month ago that with a new lorry purchased all the delays would be over. I will put money though on us NoT getting the bins emptied again.

I wonder whether Erdoğan imagines that I have nothing better to do than write to you with my complaints.

I can assure him I have plenty of other things to do and would much rather not have to do this because all we get in response are the usual “refuse to accept” comments or “I don’t believe” remarks . . .

as far as my water complaint goes (which Erdoğan said was untrue) we had No water from Friday (June 4) until Tuesday (June 8).

on Tuesday it was on from around 10am until Wednesday afternoon (June 9).

During that time the pressure was so low we actually received approximately four (yES FoUr) inches of water in our tank. If he finds this so hard to believe then I suggest he gets . . . down to my house when the water is on so he can witness it for himself . . .

I also invite him to view the green slimy pool [next door] that still seems to have had nothing done to it . . .

aS aN addendum to the above, the water situation/delivery in Esentepe has now reached the levels of the refuse collection. No refuse collection this week [June 10] (as I forecast) and the water on oNCE in a week when we received approximately four inches in our tank.
