Lefkoşa ring road more than 90% complete
THE construction of part of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road is “more than 90 per cent completed”, the Turkish Embassy’s Development and Economic Cooperation Office (KEİ) in Lefkoşa announced this week.
A written statement issued by the KEİ, said that the construction of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road is being financed by Turkey and carried out by Turkey’s Highways General Directorate.
Once finished, the new route, which will connect the Girne-Lefkoşa and Lefkoşa-Gazimağusa dual carriageways by taking traffic away from the capital, will provide “great relief to Lefkoşa’s inner-city traffic and transit traffic” the KEİ statement said.
“The construction of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road, which has come to the fore because of the increase in daily traffic density for various reasons, including the rise in the number of universities and students and Lefkoşa being the capital city, is coming to an end.
“More than 90 percent of the construction . . . on this section has been completed.
“With the opening of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road, transit traffic will be taken out of [Lefkoşa] by the ring road that will pass north of the existing Gazimağusa-Güzelyurt road.”
It was also noted in the statement that with Turkey’s financial support and the projects carried out by Turkey’s Highways General Directorate in coordination with the KEİ, the TRNC road network is being expanded with new roads, existing roads are being maintained and repaired and “equipment support” has been provided for road traffic safety.
