TRNC university features on Times Higher Education list
THE TRNC’S Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has featured on the UK’s prestigious Times Higher Education Best Young Universities in the World list 2021.
The list includes institutions that have started educational activities within the last 50 years and ranks them according to their “quality of education, scholarly research, bibliographic citations, international visibility and industrial revenue”.
EMU was ranked in the top 251-300, the only university in North Cyprus to make the list.
An EMU press release described the Times Higher Education list as the “world’s most widely-referred university rankings”.
It provides a “comparison of institutions in terms of publications, citations, quality of education as well as internationalization” EMU said, adding that it ranks seventh among 32 Turkish universities named on the league table.
Delighted EMU rector Prof Aykut Hocanın, who was informed of the university’s inclusion on the list by a letter from the Times Higher Education editor, said: “I extend my appreciation and gratitude to EMU staff.”
He drew attention to the “fact that EMU, which is a state university, [has been] ranked among the best universities in the world by international independent ranking institutions” which he said is an “indication of the quality of education and research”.
EMU ranked in the 801st to 1000th band for best university in the world overall, with a score of 25.1-30.1 out of 100.
