People positive with Covid ‘sent home’

-

SOME people who have tested positive for Covid-19 are being sent home “unsupervised”, the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (KTTB) claimed on Wednesday.

A statement issued by the KKTB claimed that the “suicidal” practice was enforced “as a result of the Health Minister Ünal Üstel’s directive” and that some of the cases had worsened at home and were taken to hospital.

“As part of the fight against the pandemic, we all know that our country and our society does not have the strength to withstand a new lockdown,” the KTTB statement said.

“The whole world is feeling anxious due to the Delta variant, which has also been detected in our country.

“While we must increase our compliance with all social and individual measures and keep the number of cases under control, it is necessary to increase inspections and ensure the continuation of the pandemic fight without another closure.

“We have learned that positive Covid-19 cases were sent to their homes by the Health Minister Ünal Üstel’s directives; no measures were taken for their follow-up and checks and some of these cases were hospitalised due to their worsening symptoms.

“It is obvious that, in such a critical period and when so many sacrifices have been made during the fight against the pandemic, such a practice is a suicidal course of action that will endanger public health and the future of the country and waste all efforts made so far.”
