THE Minimum Wage Determination Commission agreed on Wednesday to increase the monthly minimum wage by 12.95 per cent from 4,400TL (gross) and 3,828 TL (net), to 4,970TL and 4,324TL respectively.
The new amounts, last increased in February, will be backdated to September 1, but will only come into effect once published in the Official Gazette.
In the previous meetings of the commission, which were first held on July 28, employer and worker representatives agreed to increase the minimum wage by 12.95 per cent on the condition that social security contribution support to the private sector continues, putting the ball back in the government’s court.
It was reported that ministers are considering that businesses with up to 10 employees will receive a 50 per cent discount on their employer social security contributions, and those with more than 10 employees will get a 30 per cent discount.
Labour and Social Security Ministry undersecretary and chairman of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, Erman Yaylalı, said in a written statement that five members of the commission representing the state, five members representing workers and five members representing employers attended Wednesday’s meeting and unanimously accepted the new wage figures in a vote.
Mr Yaylalı also announced gross minimum hourly, daily and weekly rates as 28.67TL, 229.38TL and 1,146.92TL respectively.
He added that apprentices aged 15 to 17 would receive a minimum of 70 per cent of the stated rates.
