Tech students claim success at Teknofest
TURKISH ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri met students and teachers from the Sedat Simavi Industrial Vocational High School team to congratulate them on their success at Turkey’s aviation, space and technology festival, Teknofest 2021
They came second in the main ranking, first in the “domestic production” category, and second in the “visual ranking” of the “InterHigh School Electric Vehicle Efficiency Challenge”.
Mr Başçeri met with headteacher Çiğeltem Arifoğlu, teachers and students from the school on Monday.
Before the meeting, the
students took a spin in their electric vehicle “E-Caretta”, which they had demonstrated at Teknofest 2021, in the embassy’s garden, introduced their vehicle to Mr Başçeri and answered some of his questions about the vehicle.
In his speech at the meeting, Mr Başçeri stated that many TRNC teams participated in the Teknofest 2021 events held in İstanbul last month and that Sedat Simavi Industrial Vocational High School achieved “great success”.
“I congratulate them for their effort and for starting in this field at such a young age in terms of creating and
advancing technology,” he said. “I wish them success in their future endeavours.”
Mr Başçeri also thanked Ms Arifoğlu and the teachers for making it possible for students to participate in Teknofest 2021.
“We would like to see these young talents creating and developing technology in many different areas of life” he said, adding that Turkey is “ready to contribute to any effort to be made in this field”.
Mr Başçeri also presented each team member with a gift for their achievements.
Ms Arifoğlu conveyed her thanks to the ambassador
and said that the school team had achieved success at Teknofest 2021 through their “hard work”. She also said that the school had already started to work on a project for the next festival.
The E-Caretta team also paid a visit on Tuesday to National Culture and Education Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu.
“This success is an important source of motivation for the whole education community,” Mr Amcaoğlu said.
“I want to emphasise that you are the future of this country. Children studying in vocational high schools are very important for us.”
