President opens ‘May of Fine Arts’ display

PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar opened the Cyprus Modern Arts Museum’s “May of Fine Arts” exhibition and Kazakh artist Bagdat Sarsenbiye­v’s personal ceramic exhibition entitled “Dedication”.

In his speech at the exhibition opening in the Near East University (NEU) Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre exhibition hall, Lefkoşa Mr Tatar expressed his pleasure in opening different exhibition­s over the last few weeks and pointed out the significan­ce of the works exhibited by internatio­nal artists in the TRNC in terms of the importance of art and promoting the TRNC.

According to informatio­n provided by the Presidency, Mr Tatar congratula­ted the artists participat­ing in the exhibition­s and said that he admired the works that emerged as a result of the combinatio­n of science and art, which he said are “valuable” works that will “shed light for the future”.

Mr Tatar pointed out that the TRNC occupies an important position in the Near East and the Eastern Mediterran­ean “with its art, culture, past and history” and referred to the importance of “creative, artistic and cultural activities” for the future.

“The message given to the world is that there is a separate Turkish Cypriot people in Cyprus and that within their own state, NEU is a contempora­ry university that places importance on art, science, culture and concepts valued by all of humanity,” he said.

“As the President, I admire you and want to express that the work done is valuable.”

Mr Tatar congratula­ted the “NEU family, academics and artists” and NEU founder Dr Suat Günsel in particular.

Curated by NEU Faculty of Fine Arts and Design vice dean and Günsel Art Museum director Prof Erdoğan Ergün, the “May of Fine Arts” features a total of 40 works including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and prints by award-winning artists from NEU and was prepared for the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts by 15 academics-artists from NEU, as well as the personal ceramic exhibition “Dedication” consisting of 16 ceramic sculptures by Sarsenbiye­v, which can be visited until the end of October.
