Tulips organises guided tours of Akıncılar village
THE Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) is organising guided tours of one of the most remote villages of the TRNC, Akıncılar.
The tours will take place every month, with the first due to take place on Tuesday, May 10. The price is £20 per person, which includes all transport, and lunch with soft drinks.
Those wishing to consume alcoholic drinks must purchase them separately. The pick-up (9.30am) and dropoff (4pm) point is the Tempo car park in Çatalköy.
The tours will introduce participants to the people from the village, also known as Louroujina, to “learn about their history, the troubles they have faced and their struggles for the future”.
The tour of Akıncılar, the TRNC’s most southerly settlement, includes “marooned tanks, the story of the Green Line borders, historical connections with British Royalty” and a meeting with the village muhtar.
After lunch at 1pm there will be a “museum tour” of the family home of Tulips chair Raziye Kocaismail, followed by meetings with villagers and a chance to sample their local produce.
Tulips spokesperson Sue Tilt said: “If you have never had the opportunity to join us in the past then here is your chance. Originally started in 2013, these ever-popular trips are back, so why not join us on one of our guided tours and you will step back in time in this unbelievable village which is steeped in history.”
Tickets can be purchased from the Tulips shop in west Girne or from the Booksellers book shop in east Girne. To book a place, call Mike on 0533 862 3524.
