Play-off places in Puma Women’s League settled
THE four teams that will take part in the Puma Women’s League post-season play-offs are now known after an actionpacked weekend of football in North Cyprus.
On Saturday, China Bazaar Gençlik Gücü hosted Yonpaş Dumlupınar, who were already assured of their place in the top four thanks to their superior head-to-head record over the teams below them.
The away side were defeated for only the second time this season in the league, however, with China Bazaar Gençlik Gücü retaining second place in the table and securing their own spot in the top four.
The celebrations after the match were muted, however, after Yonpaş Dumlupınar striker Yağmur Lisani suffered a horror injury in the late stages of the game. Lisani underwent surgery on Monday and is now beginning her recovery.
Elsewhere, league leaders Desly Mağusa extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions after beating winless Vadili at home.
Sunday saw the fourth and final play-off spot secured by Küçük Kaymaklı, who beat Miracle Değirmenlik to move up to third place and ensure that no side outside of the top four can catch them on the final day, thanks to their superior head-to-head record.
On the other side of the capital, Hamitköy remain winless after succumbing to defeat at home to Merit Alsancak Yeşilova.
This weekend is the last of the regular season, and will kick off with the league’s bottom two sides battling it out to avoid the league’s wooden spoon today.
Tomorrow, Yonpaş Dumlupınar will host Küçük Kaymaklı to decide the battle for third place in the league, while Merit Alsancak Yeşilova will play against China Bazaar Gençlik Gücü and Miracle Değirmenlik will line up against Desly Mağusa.
