Turkey supports resurfacing of more than 110km of roads
OVER 110km of rural roads in North Cyprus have been repaired and resurfaced thanks to support provided by the Republic of Turkey, it has been announced.
A statement from the TRNC’s Public Works and Transport Ministry said that as part of Turkey’s “Highways Master Plan” a total of “110.7km of rural roads have been renewed to date”.
“The final stage has been reached so that the renewal work on the Dipkarpaz-[Apostolos Andreas] Monastery road can begin,” the ministry said.
“The Dipkarpaz-Monastery Road, which was filled with potholes due to severe wear and tear, was patched temporarily so that transportation in the area could be more comfortable, faster and most importantly so foreign and domestic tourists would not suffer.
“Renovation work on the Dipkarpaz-Monastery Road is scheduled to begin in a few weeks.”
The statement added that work to patch up damage on the LefkoşaGüzelyurt dual carriageway has been completed and that “road patching, maintenance and repair
Gazimağusa continues”.
The statement continued: “Road marking work has been completed on the Yılmazköy-Çamlıbel, Geçitköy-Karşıyaka, Tepebaşı-Kalkanlı, Girne Mountain Road-Ulukışla, Serdarlı-Görneç, Tirmen-Ergenekon, Gönendere-Pınarlı roads and the Bostancı border crossing road.
“In addition, within the scope of a tender, a contract has been signed for the repair and maintenance of damaged crash barriers, and new barriers have been installed where needed.
“Traffic signs have been put up and road marking work has also been started by the Highways Department throughout the country.
“Weeds have been cleaned from the GazimağusaLefkoşa, Girne-Lefkoşa and Güzelyurt-Lefkoşa roads, the Acapulco junction and Alagadi Beach [road] and between Mutluyaka and Yeniboğaziçi.
“Signs have been installed on the roads and the damaged ones replaced and camera signs have been put up.”
The ministry also said that the second phase of work to widen a 2.1km section of the Girne-Alsancak road will be completed in March.
Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı said “with Turkey’s support, the work continues on the development of the highway infrastructure, which will contribute significantly to the country’s development”.
“The importance we attach to our highway infrastructure will increase in the coming period,” he added.
“While contributing to the development of the country with new projects, we will enable our citizens to travel more comfortably and safely and save time.”
