TRNC mayors hold talks in Strasbourg
REPRESENTATIVES of the Cyprus Turkish Municipalities Union Delegation participated in the 46th Session of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and its accompanying committee meetings in Strasbourg, France, recently.
According to a statement released by the Municipalities Union, the delegation, led by its chairman and Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar, comprised of Municipalities Union deputy chairman and İskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu, Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, Gönyeli-Alayköy Mayor Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, Municipalities Union international delegation secretary and Girne Municipality director Hüseyin Köle, and Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality director Ferruh Dülgeroğlu.
During the event, Özçınar and Köle participated in the Monitoring Committee meeting in Strasbourg, while Amcaoğlu and Dülgeroğlu attended the Administrative Committee meeting.
Sadıkoğlu and Şenkul took part in the Current Affairs committee meeting.
The Municipalities Union delegation also held several meetings in Strasbourg, including discussions with Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe president Marc Cools, Chamber of Local Governments president Bernd Vöhringer, Türkiye’s permanent
representative to the Council of Europe Ambassador Nurdan Bayraktar Golder, and TRNC Strasbourg Representative Selda Çimen.
Özçınar emphasised the productivity of their meetings and talks in Strasbourg, underlining their significance in advancing Turkish Cypriot local democracy and enhancing visibility within the Council of Europe.
During the time in France the delegation also attended a fast-breaking “iftar” dinner hosted by the Turkish Embassy.
