The of­fi­cial in­au­gu­ra­tion of the Honorary Con­sulate of Ro­ma­nia took place in Li­mas­sol, with its con­stituency for Li­mas­sol and Paphos headed by Mar­ios Kl­i­tou, CEO of Baker Tilly in Cyprus.

The cer­e­mony was held in the pres­ence of the State Sec­re­tary for Euro­pean Af­fairs of the Ro­ma­nian Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs, George Ci­amba, who was on an of­fi­cial visit to Cyprus for po­lit­i­cal con­sul­ta­tions with the For­eign Min­istry in Nicosia.

The main task of the Honorary Con­sul is to rep­re­sent Ro­ma­nia’s in­ter­ests in the eco­nomic, com­mer­cial, cul­tural and sci­en­tific fields, to pro­mote the his­tory and cul­ture of the Ro­ma­nian peo­ple and to pro­mote the friendly re­la­tions be­tween Ro­ma­nia and the Repub­lic of Cyprus.

Wel­com­ing the par­tic­i­pants, the Ro­ma­nian Am­bas­sador, Ion Pascu, re­ferred to the im­por­tance his gov­ern­ment at­taches to the fur­ther strength­en­ing of the close ties and fruit­ful co­op­er­a­tion with the Repub­lic of Cyprus, a coun­try with which Ro­ma­nia shares common val­ues and joint vi­sion for the fu­ture.

Ad­dress­ing the au­di­ence, State Sec­re­tary George Ci­amba ex­pressed his con­fi­dence that Mar­ios Kl­i­tou will pro­mote Ro­ma­nia’s in­ter­ests in Cyprus with ded­i­ca­tion and com­pe­tence and will be suc­cess­ful in his mis­sion to de­vel­op­ing the mu­tu­ally re­ward­ing part­ner­ship be­tween the two coun­tries.

Kl­i­tou stated that he is com­mit­ted to con­trib­ute to the fur­ther de­vel­op­ment of the tra­di­tional good re­la­tions that ex­ist be­tween Cyprus and Ro­ma­nia.
