Ed­u­ca­tion and hu­man cap­i­tal fo­cus of ship­ping panel

Mar­avil­hosa is or­gan­is­ing the sec­ond Ship­ping Panel Dis­cus­sion, in or­der to dis­cuss the need to fur­ther ed­u­cate and de­velop our hu­man cap­i­tal in Cyprus and take ad­van­tage of the dif­fer­ent op­por­tu­ni­ties aris­ing in ship­ping, to de­velop and ex­pand the Cyprus ship­ping base.

Five high pro­file lo­cal and in­ter­na­tional pan­el­lists will share their ex­pe­ri­ences and thoughts and have a di­a­logue with the younger gen­er­a­tion.

This panel dis­cus­sion, tak­ing place at the Po­sei­do­nia Beach Ho­tel, Li­mas­sol, on Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 2, is ad­dressed to dis­tin­guished ex­perts and pro­fes­sion­als in the in­dus­try.

Diplo­mats, rep­re­sen­ta­tives of pro­fes­sional or­gan­i­sa­tions, top man­age­ment and per­son­nel of the Cyprus ship­ping in­dus­try, as well as var­i­ous ship­ping as­so­ci­a­tions and the Cyprus Ship­ping Cham­ber, have con­firmed their at­ten­dance.

The or­gan­iser of the event, Muriel Matta, Founder of Mar­avil­hosa, said that the panel dis­cus­sion “Ship­ping: an in­dus­try of Pas­sion, Knowl­edge and Ex­pe­ri­ence – Part Two” will start at 6pm with her wel­come ad­dress, fol­lowed keynote speaker Dr. Chris­tos Atal­ia­nis, Se­nior Marine Sur­veyor, Depart­ment of Mer­chant Ship­ping, on be­half of Act­ing Di­rec­tor Ioan­nis Ef­s­tra­tiou.

Next up will be “The role of Cul­ture and Lead­er­ship” mod­er­ated by Muriel Matta, fol­lowed by “From the sea to see­ing: How a ca­reer at sea led to a ca­reer in jour­nal­ism” by Craig Ea­son, Ed­i­to­rial Di­rec­tor, Fathom News.

Cap­tain Eber­hard Koch, Chair­man, CEO & Part­ner, Oester­re­ichis­cher Lloyd Ship­ping Group will give his ad­dress on “In­creas­ing the Mar­itime Clus­ter in Cyprus”, while De­spina Panayiotou Theo­dos­siou, Joint Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, To­totheo Group of Com­pa­nies will dis­cuss “The role of Ship­ping As­so­ci­a­tions in ed­u­ca­tion and de­vel­op­ment”.

“Chal­lenges of a Train­ing Man­ager” will be pre­sented by Dim­itris Fokas, Train­ing Man­ager of Athens-based Maran Tankers Man­age­ment, fol­lowed by “Per­cep­tions and as­pi­ra­tions of the young gen­er­a­tion” by Con­standi­nos Pa­pam­i­nas, stu­dent in Ship­ping Com­merce and Fi­nance, Cyprus Univer­sity of Tech­nol­ogy.

Con­clud­ing re­marks will be pre­sented by An­dreas I. Chrysos­to­mou on “Great ideas need ac­tions: Let’s do it”, fol­lowed by a Q&A ses­sion and a cock­tail re­cep­tion.

The first event or­gan­ised by Mar­avil­hosa on “Ship­ping: an in­dus­try of pas­sion, knowl­edge and ex­pe­ri­ence” was held in Li­mas­sol last May.

The panel dis­cus­sion fo­cused on real-life ship­ping stories and pro­vided a learn­ing ses­sion for new in­dus­try pro­fes­sion­als, al­low­ing to en­gage a di­a­logue be­tween ship­ping ex­ec­u­tives and young as­pir­ing pro­fes­sion­als.
