Public sector workers reduced by 1189 in Q3
The public sector workforce was reduced by 1,189 persons in the third quarter of the year to 65,809 from the previous quarter. The General Government employed 59,780 persons and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies had 6,029, according to the Statistical Service Cystat.
In all, 50,547 persons were employed in Government, 4,971 persons in NonProfit Organisations and 4,262 in Local Authorities (3,142 in Municipalities and 1,120 in Other Local authorities.
The employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 2,462 persons (3,89%) compared to the same quarter of 2016. The employment in Central Government increased by 2,433 persons (4,58% and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 50 persons (0,84%).
Compared to the second quarter, the employment in the Broad Public Sector decreased by 1,189 persons (-1,77%). The employment in Central Government decreased by 1,325 persons (-2,33%) and in the Non -profit Organisations decreased by 718 persons (-12,62%), while in Local Authorities it increased by 16 persons (0,38%). the HICP increased 0.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The greatest positive change compared to November 2016 was in transport (2.6%), while alcoholic beverages, tobacco (-3.2%) recorded the greatest negative change.
Compared to October 2017, the greatest drop was observed in Restaurants and Hotels of the order of - 6.3%.
During January - November 2017, compared to the same period of the previous year, the greatest change was recorded in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels 6.5%.
As regards to the economic origin, the greatest change was in Energy with an increase of 3.7% when compared to the index of November 2016.
