Temporary casino to open doors on June 28

A temporary casino will open in Zakaki, Limassol later this month, becoming the first to operate in the Republic.

The casino at the old Orphanides supermarke­t site will operate while the City of Dreams Mediterran­ean resort is being built.

“For those who can’t wait the three short years whilst we build this amazing resort, we’re opening a Temporary Casino, or Popup Casino we prefer to call it, a milestone in itself,” said Melco chief Lawrence Ho on Friday.

It is the first casino to open in accordance with the new Cyprus Legislatio­n and Regulation­s.

The Zakaki casino on 271 Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, is expected to open on June 28.

It has a floor area of 4,600sq.m., gaming area 1,300sq., 593 employees (75% Cypriot), 33 tables, 242 slot machines and can accommodat­e 1,000 guests.

It will be open on a 24-hour basis, with an expected influx of 25,000 customers a month, there is no membership requiremen­t, but entrance restricted to

Along with a VIP gaming area restaurant and two bars.

The Zakaki casino will operate until 2021 when all personnel will automatica­lly be transferre­d to the Integrated Casino Resort.

Four other satellite casinos will open in Nicosia, Paphos, Ayia Napa and Larnaca.

The one in the capital and in Paphos are scheduled to open their doors in October, while the Larnaca casino is earmarked for early 2019 and Ayia Napa for later next year.
