1. Why we are here or the big move

-

Ihave started this blog for a number of reasons. In the first place, I would like to answer the question that I have answered roughly sixty times in the last few weeks. That question is: Why did you move to Prague? If I have to retell the story one more time, I will, quite frankly, So, instead I can send people to this blog.

I will tell you about us and answer that question.

My wife is German and I am British. We met in Britain many years ago when she was on holiday. We are respected professionals in our respective fields, me in IT and my wife is eminent university professor. We have two children, a boy and a girl. The boy is called Sam and the girl is Sara. They have lived in both Germany and Britain. A few months ago my wife

a university in Prague. Since my wife studied abroad here for a semester in university she was really keen to take the residency. I must admit that at first I was

against it. I assumed that it would be too difficult to manage such a move – especially since our children are not so little any more. But my wife is very persuasive. So after much discussion, we decided to pull up stakes

mantly ada-

and move to Prague. So that is how we ended up in Prague.

Another reason I am writing this blog is to record this experience. The Czech culture is completely foreign to me, so I have no doubt that we will have a lot of adventures. We will also have to cope with a variety of frustrations and difficulties. By recording them I am not sure what I hope to accomplish, to be honest. Perhaps I would like to keep my friends up to date with humorous or interesting episodes of the culture shock that will take place.

And it might just be to see how we deal with this experience and if we can see some personal growth at the end of it. I amnot really sure, but I have promised myself that I will keep up this blog until we leave in a year. I hope that it proves enjoyable to those who read it.
