Viajar con ñan / travel with ñan
Upon arriving just minutes after the speedboat that would take us to Isabela had departed, and after having taken a sea-sickness pill an hour prior, just like the pharmacy doctors told us to (the effect had us light-headed for a good hour and a half on land), we were disheartened at having to stay the night in Puerto Ayora. We didn’t have hours to lose, let alone a day. Everything was organized down to the last detail by Juan Pablo Verdesoto, who calmed his frustrations with a carefree smile and a good plate of menestra beans on the ‘Kiosk Street’. At least we were able to visit the Germans’ Beach, get some shots of Las Grietas and eat a ‘wizard fish’ ( pez brujo); and once we were feeling Galápagos OK, we did indeed set sail early the next morning, psyched to discover the ‘enchanted’ beauties of Isabela, start anew, and one by one, hit our ‘targets’: iguana, check, wetland, check, Lover’s Beach, Wall of Tears, tortoise in semicaptivity, swim with a penguin, come way too close to a stingray because you were fixing your snorkeling mask, get back safe and sound to Quito two weeks later... priceless Ñan…
